Darwin Street Art Festival

The Darwin Street Art Festival (DSAF) is one of the longest running street art festivals in Australia and takes place every May/June over three weeks. The program includes events, activations, and workshops, along with seeing up to 20 new murals added to Darwin's streets and laneways every year! As of 2024 DSAF boasts 129 large-scale murals painted by some of the most well-known and accomplished street artists in Australia and the world.

DSAF25 will run from 24 May - 15 June.

TAKE A STREET ART TOUR

SAVE THE DATE 📅 The Darwin Street Art Festival (DSAF) is going big in 2025 with the addition of DOUBLE EXPOSURE, a new outdoor projection exhibition that will transform our city into a vibrant night-time gallery for one night only!!

This large-scale installation will take place at the old RSL site in Darwin’s CBD, and will feature the activation of existing large-scale murals using light, and an immersive two-storey cube installation showcasing film, photography, and digital artworks from local, national and international artists.

As a first time DSAF event, DOUBLE EXPOSURE will also amplify the voices of local youth and community artists, including young artists from @launchdarwin, the art of Lukas Bendel who will mentor and deliver workshops, and local business @northernlightsnt!

The exhibition will also feature food & refreshments provided on-site by @ethiopian_sisters_kitchen Kitchen and @mamataafricasoulfood.

DSAF25 POP-UP ARTIST

Sophie was born and bred in Darwin and is a high school graduate with a passion for art and design. She has enjoyed working with acrylic paint since she was a child and have completed many art projects over the years.

At the 2025 EXITArt exhibition, Sophie won the DSAF award, which gave her the opportunity to take part in the 2025 Darwin Street Art Festival.

Rhenz Flores is a Katherine based artist who specialises in portraiture and realism through multiple mediums such as oil, watercolour and aerosol. Rhenz recently completed the NXT Gen Arts program which allowed him to develop his skills to paint large scale murals under the mentorship and guidance of the crew at Proper Creative.

Niqui Toldi’s art features bold and confident femme figures, symbolising the strength that she had trouble accessing as a person who grew up in a culture and environment that discouraged difference and speaking up. These imposing figures serve as an unapologetic tribute to the strength and power of the self, with a special emphasis on women of colour. Her pieces are an invitation to join her on a visual journey of transformation, an ode to the boldness that can emerge from vulnerability, and a celebration of self-discovery and resilience.

DSAF25 POP-UP ARTISTS
Jamilla Cranny is a Darwin based artist, born and raised in Victoria. Working locally as an art teacher, Cranny moved to Darwin to experience the vibrant lifestyle and culture.
Cranny holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Federation University and balances her time creating art, exploring the region and plying her trade on the football field.
Having specialised in drawing, Cranny is keen to get outside of her comfort zone and dive into the street art waters, taking inspiration from all around her, specifically the people near and far with whom she interacts and admires. Cranny seeks to combine this inspiration with aesthetic elements to create appealing visuals.

Hari Koutlakis is an artist based on Kaurna land, focusing on movement based abstract murals, paintings, and installations.
His recognisable pattern-like work is formed through a series of process based discoveries of forms which are forever growing and responding to the space in which the work is made. Hari approaches the work with no preconceived ideas, allowing it to evolve in an organic manner within his distinctive graphic style.

DSAF25 POP-UP ARTISTS
Moses Saunders is a 17-year-old artist, born in Wiradjuri country in Tumut, NSW, and now living on Larrakia land in Darwin, Northern Territory.
Moses takes inspiration from everything he experiences in life, and what happens in front and around him, to guide how he works, and the motives behind his works. He works with a variety of mediums, mainly textile creation, fashion design and adaptation, using upcycled and often unconventional materials as his starting points, giving new life for something that would otherwise end up in landfill. He Also works with aerosol as a street artist, being featured over the past two years painting with the Darwin Street Art Festival. Moses loves to collaborate and appreciates learning new ways to reach a goal or outcome, by weaving through the unexpected, innovating his actions and creations, to better fit a purpose and expression.

DSAF25 ARTISTS: VANS

@vanstheomega has been painting mixed media art and letterforms in the streets for over three decades, while traveling around the world since 2000 for various commissions, festivals and activations.
Most of his influences come from the world around him and include ancient scripts, architecture, engineering and the ideas of movement or balance.
His attention to detail and search for perfection has put him in the spotlight within the street art scene worldwide where he has left his mark in over 30 countries to date.

Blending technical patterns, geometry and graffiti stylization into powerful portraits continue to push the boundaries and propel his name forward. Today his work is a deeply personal journey and elevated by Instsllation works, curation and bringing creatives together.

DSAF25 ARTISTS: ULTRAMARINE
@oliverimages is a visual artist working on Larrakia land near Garamilla/Darwin, blending contemporary portraiture with the rich tradition of Byzantine icons to create devotional paintings for the tropics.

For DSAF 2025’s theme ‘Untamed,’ they present a striking new work celebrating Crystal Love Johnson, a true Darwin icon. With her unbridled energy, Crystal transcends convention through the sharing of radical queer joy.

DSAF25 ARTISTS:
TRENT BUNDIRRIK LEE
Trent is a Larrakia man through his Father and is part of the large Cubillo family. He was about 7 or 8 when he was taught by his father to paint in the traditional method, he was also influenced by other family members. As his skill level progressed and improved (from about the age or 10-12) he was taught how to carve and make cultural artefacts and tools: spears, boomerangs and other carvings like birds, turtles and stingrays. Some of Trent’s spears and other artefacts sit in the Governor General’s offices and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s office.

Trent is continually painting art works on canvas, surfboards, carvings, footballs, records and Artefacts. He is also a spray paint artist and has been using this medium for the last seven years.

TONY AMARAL

@timortony, born in 1984 in Timor-Leste, grew up developing a passion for the arts and activism through painting banners for pro-independence demonstrations. In 2002, he co-founded Arte Moris Free Art School, with Timorese contemporaries and Swiss artist Luca Gansser, creating a pivotal platform for Timorese artists. His artistic practice grew through national and international exhibitions in Australia, Indonesia, and Switzerland. During Timor-Leste’s 2006 civil unrest, his art played a socially engaged role, contributing to peace campaigns through community posters and murals.
Tony remains a leading figure in Timor-Leste’s contemporary art scene, inspiring new generations of artists and making a lasting impact on both local and international art communities.

TARZAN JUNGLEQUEEN

@tarzanjunglequeen_artist is a multi-disciplinary queer artist whose work blends graphic design, collage, screen printing, and text. Their work explores and reimagines ideas of queerness, identity, and community, often through the deconstruction of their own body. With a deep connection to community arts in Darwin, Tarzan is committed to collective liberation and environmental justice. Their art has been exhibited locally, interstate, and internationally.

RYAN YANOE

@oh_yanoe is a Belgian-American contemporary artist celebrated for his large-scale murals, fine art paintings, and sculptural installations. Yanoe began his artistic journey in the early ‘90s as a graffiti writer, mastering wild-style lettering before transitioning into public art, fine art, and large-scale installations.
Renowned for his ability to merge traditional and digital techniques, Yanoe’s murals can be found across the globe, with projects spanning from Los Angeles to Tunisia, Columbus, Tulsa, and beyond. His site-specific works often integrate 3D elements, lighting, and augmented reality, pushing the boundaries of contemporary public art. Notably, he holds the world record for the largest augmented reality mural in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Beyond public art, Yanoe is deeply committed to fine art, with a growing focus on oil painting and sculpture. His work in the studio explores the human form, emotion, and surreal abstraction, blending classical influences with modern techniques

PHILLY KEMARRE
@philly.kemarre is an Arrernte artist whose work is rooted in the land and culture of his people. It is from this place of pride and reverence that Philly’s art emerges - an exploration of the strength, resilience, and beauty of his people and Country; Arrernte people of Urlpmerre Country, Akityarre. His works are imbued with the spirit of Country, creating a space where the physical and spiritual worlds intertwine. He is guided by his Dreaming, which is embedded in Country - not a distant past event, but an ongoing presence - an omnipresent force that shapes not only the land but also time itself.

In his paintings, the Dreaming tracks are traced across the land, portraying the stories that define his People and Country. These works serve as both a personal and collective remembrance, showing how Country and its spirit are inseparable. Through his art, Philly invites others to experience the living essence of his culture and its profound connection to the land, offering a glimpse into a world where his Dreaming and Country coexist in an unbroken, ever-evolving flow.

DSAF25 ARTISTS: NERYL

@nerylwalker is an Australian artist, illustrator and designer who loves to draw and celebrate women.
Inspired by a love of mid 20th century pop culture, her studio and 1950s home is filled with countless sources of vintage and nostalgic inspiration.

Known for her strong and playful female characters, Neryl’s background in Graphic Design has seen her collaborating on branding, advertising, design, publishing and large scale mural projects. Her work has featured on 100 different shades of lip gloss for Buxom Lips cosmetic packaging, on limited edition bottles of Four Pillars Gin, and in Playboy Magazine, where she is the artist behind the updated iconic 1950’s character, Femlin.

Internationally exhibited and recognised in Lürzer’s Archive Top 200 Illustrators, she is also represented by Snyder in the US and UK.

MISS POLLY
Polly Johnstone is a Northern Territory based visual artist and arts educator. Her art practice includes oil paintings, acrylic paintings, watercolour paintings, pen and ink drawings, aquarelles and graphite.
Polly is passionate about creating art in public spaces for all to enjoy and to hopefully inspire the next generation.

Polly participated in the first ever Darwin Street Art Festival and has since gone on to participate in most of them - you can find her work in Aralia Street Nightcliff, and West Lane, Austin Lane, Shadforth Lane in the city!

MINNA LEUNIG
@minnaleunig is a visual artist currently living and working on the traditional lands of the Larrakia people in Darwin. Painting both on canvas and large scale public murals, Minna creates wild and playful images inspired by the unique beauty and feeling across a vast array of native Australian landscapes - all the way from the dry sclerophyll forests of the Victorian Strathbogie ranges, to the tangled mangroves and thick rainforests of Cape York. Through her paintings, she seeks to spark a sense of appreciation for the natural world as well as an interest in issues relating to environmental conservation - during a time where fragile ecosystems need our care and protection the most.

Minna is interested in the visual language of symbols - the simplifying and stripping back of shape to essential forms. Her work features bold silhouettes, organic lines, limited colour palette and demonstrates a deep consideration for how shapes sit alongside one another to communicate a harmonious and interconnected feeling - symbolic of finely balanced ecosystems and the way in which specific plants and animals exist alongside one another to create an interactive, symbiotic stability. Minna’s work is also an expression and celebration of aliveness - of the beauty of being here. Her work emanates joy, playfulness, humour and a sense of wildness - reflective not only of the external world around us, but also of the animalistic life force within us - intuitive, carnal, spirited, divine.
As well as having exhibited at galleries such as Backwoods, aMBUSH, Saint Cloche, Outré, Yeah Nice and Juddy Roller, Minna has a keen interest in bringing art out of gallery spaces and into the public realm through large scale murals, working by the philosophy that art should be an integral part of everyday life, and accessible to all.

MARITA ALBERS
@thesaltymermaidgallery is a local Darwin artist who has been exhibiting her work in the Territory, interstate and overseas for almost twenty years. She is primarily known for her brightly-coloured, exuberant paintings, but has worked in a variety of other mediums as well. Marita has collaborated on dance and fashion projects, illustrated a children’s book and worked on a number of public art projects. She draws on her love of story and her travels to fuel her work, and professes an incurable addiction to colour.

KRIS KEOGH
Kris is a musician, painter and digital artist based in Nhulunbuy, Arnhem Land, NT. He has been exhibiting since 2008, and has had several solo shows in both Australia and Japan.
Recently he’s been on visuals for King Stingray, at the 2023 NRL Grand Final, Parliament House and at every major music festival in Australia.
He is influenced by all things kawaii, op art, and Australian Indigenous painters, especially from North East Arnhem Land and from the Central Desert region. His favourite artist is the late N.Yunupingu.
You might know his visual style from his work for Happy Yess, East Arnhem Live, Megabass, Viva La Body, the Funbus, King Sting and more.

JORDAN LUCKY
A vibrant human by nature @jordanluckyartist passion for life, nature and creativity leaves an indelible mark as long lasting as his murals.
Born and raised on the East coast of Australia, surrounded by abundant nature and the post industrial city scape of Newcastle, Jordan’s Artistic expression started in his early life. From ages as young as 14 Jordan was delivering playful murals for his community. After fine tuning himself and his skill set, at 18 Jordan sought to engage with the transnational mural and graffiti community, taking art to numerous countries of Europe and Asia. Seizing the opportunity to craft artworks from Stockholm to Lisbon and London to Istanbul, Jordan grew exponentially as a person and an artist cementing his passion and future as a creative powerhouse.
Upon his return to Australia, Jordan has continually sought to make his place and continue to grow his skill set amongst Australia’s premier artist in our thriving aerosol art scene Australia wide. Years of learning and 100’s of murals around the country, Jordan continued to create community and construct an idea of what was possible while looking to push their creative endeavours further than ever.

Jordan has influenced the art scene in his home city of Newcastle, recently adding Creative Director of Playstate - an art gallery, street art agency and aerosol art shop to his accomplishments with the goal of upskilling, engaging and benefiting the community that raised him.

JESSE BELL
Jesse is a Darwin-born artist who grew up in Adelaide River. He has spent time living in Auckland, New Zealand where he first developed a passion for painting. Moving back to Darwin as a young adult, he continued to develop his painting skills in the graffiti scene. He was quickly recognised for his talent in painting realism, gaining a substantial amount of commissions for his work. Specialising in animals and portraiture, he now works full-time as a street artist and signwriter.

Jesse has been involved in the Darwin Street Art festival EVERY YEAR, collaborating with a number of artists as well as producing spectacular works of his own - you can find his existing DSAF works on the Govt Printing office in Parap, in Mitchell Street, in Austin Lane, in West Lane, in Shadforth Lane, and on the corner of Bennett and Cavenagh!

JASON LEE
@bidjipidji_art is a self taught artist who was born and raised in Darwin, Northern Territory.

Having grown up next to saltwater and learning his Gulumerrdjin (Larrakia) culture from his mother, Uncles, Aunties and brothers and sisters this sparked an interest in art and this interest was cultivated during his teenage years and further developed when he started learning the Larrakia language. Jason’s artistic influences come from his Larrakia ancestry and the Larrakia Language and cultural practices. His art is a mix of contemporary and traditional styles.

JASMINE CRISP
@jasmine_crisp is a painter and muralist from Adelaide, South Australia. Crisp utilises her traditional painting background to create her detailed mural paintings using only brush, roller and hand mixed colours. Her practice features local figures, spaces and belongings from her lived experience that are combined to create playful genre paintings of the imagined familiar.

Jasmine has produced large scale murals across the world, including notable works in Italy, Vienna, London and Portsmouth UK, and in Australia at the likes of Wonderwalls Festival, Brisbane Street Art Festival and Wall to Wall.

DSAF25 ARTISTS: INKSPER
@inksper1 has been drawing since childhood and doing graffiti his whole life. His roots in street art began with painting graffiti on the streets of Lithuania—though that’s in the past. This was a catalyst for artistic evolution, leading him to explore graphic design, illustration, tattooing, and now animation. His visuals are usually funky characters or frames of cartoon characters in motion.

GINDY LEGS
@gindylegs aka Cyan Sue-Lee and Mikayla Lee are Gulumerridjin (Larrakia) sisters and multidisciplinary artists.
Growing up in a highly creative and artistic family, expressing themselves through art has been a lifelong practice. They employ several mediums to explore their practice including paints, clay, wire, bamboo, fibres, natural pigments and other organic resources.
They draw upon their cultural heritage and are inspired by their ancestral lands.

DSAF25 ARTISTS:
GEORGE GOODNOW
@george.goodnow is a painter and muralist currently based in Wollongong (on Dharawal Country), whose work focuses on relationships between people and built environments. They are interested in how objects hold memories, and how architecture reflects, orientates and holds bodies.
Their paintings document and deconstruct architecture, materials and memories to explore the complex relationships between built environments, the bodily and the emotional. Through this work, they examine social norms and communicate queer experiences.

DSAF25 ARTISTS: ERIC ZOUEH SKOTNES
@zoueh_skotnes is a Los Angeles-based urban artist known for interconnecting disparate styles into an aesthetically integrated whole.
Skotnes began writing graffiti at 11 years old, an influence that has evolved throughout his career and remains prevalent in his outdoor murals. He studied illustration and fine art at Art Center College of Design and, through that training, is well versed in classical, figurative painting and knowledgeable about the history of art.
Colliding these schoolings—one in the classroom, the other on the streets—Skotnes creates murals and works on canvas that juxtapose his wildstyle graffiti with figural renderings of classical sculptures from antiquity.

CORDIAL DRAWS
Bethany is a local Darwin artist who has been creating since she learnt to pick up paper. She uses many mediums from digital art to watercolours to tell stories about little guys doing little guy things. Her most recent works in the Darwin community include poster designs for Big Dog Salad, a mural up top in collaboration with @palmerston_street_art_festival and a few other little fellas here and there.
