TYLAH SAUNDERS
DARWIN WATERFRONT
THE ARTIST
A Gunditjmara artist, Tylah spent his early years between Beachport - a sleepy little surf town in South Australia and Heywood, a township near Lake Condah Mission in southwest Victoria - Traditional Lands of the Gunditjmara people.
He started painting late and it began simply as a hobby and a means of staying connected to culture. He found it to be a really cathartic experience, often getting lost for hours on end. As tends to happen, that hobby soon became a passion. Tylah feels very lucky that he is able to now share that passion with people.
THE ARTWORK
Says Tylah: "Calling the Territory home for the last few years, I wanted to pay respect to a place that has meant so much to me.
The patterns depicted represent our journey in life. It's a reminder for all of us to appreciate the present, respect the past and to take solace in the notion that we are exactly where we are meant to be at this time".
