COLIN HOLT
MCMINN STREET
THE ARTIST

Colin Holt is a widely celebrated Darwin artist with a career spanning over four decades. His artwork is characterised by a wild and quirky flavour.

Colin Holt arrived in Darwin in 1977 and studied Fine Arts at the Darwin Community College, CDU’s predecessor institution. In the early 1980s, he lived in Cairns, at Darwin River and on Bathurst Island, before joining Darwin Mural Group and creating commissioned public-space murals across the city.
During the early 1990s, he ran poster and fabric printmaking workshops at Tiwi Designs on Bathurst Island, returning often to assist with the artists’ printmaking activities.

His work is represented in regional and national public and private collections in Australia. Many artworks that will feature in the exhibition are on loan from private collections in Darwin, Alice Springs and Yirrkala.

THE ARTWORK

This work is an abstract landscape of the countryside between QLD and NT. Colin wanted to use the colors of a typical landscape but wanted the composition to not necessarily look like a landscape at first view.
