MISS POLLY
Polly Johnstone is a Northern Territory based visual artist and arts educator. Her art practice includes oil paintings, acrylic paintings, watercolour paintings, pen and ink drawings, aquarelles and graphite.
Polly is passionate about creating art in public spaces for all to enjoy and to hopefully inspire the next generation.
She participated in the first ever Darwin Street Art Festival and has since gone on to participate in every subsequent year of the festival - she is the only artist to do so.

SHONA LEE GRIFFEN
Shona Lee is a Darwin based Artist/Designer who was born and raised in the Territory. Since she can remember she has always been creating art. As an adult she moved to Brisbane to live and study a Bachelor of Communication Design at Billy Blue College of Design. Shona Lee has now been working professionally as a full time Artist/Designer for over 10 years. She has worked at design studios both in based the Gold Coast and Darwin, as well as being a freelance artist.
When creating her artwork she works in a broad range of mediums. From digital programs like Adobe Creative Cloud and Procreate to tactical mediums like acrylic paint, spray paint, pencils and markets. You can see in her artwork that growing up and living in tropical climates like Brisbane, Gold Coast and Darwin have influenced the style of her artwork which has a very floral and warm summer feel.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This wall is a celebration of the growth of the Darwin Street Art Festival. It has, and continues to, transform the streets and lane ways of Darwin and throughout the Territory making once bland functional spaces into an outdoor gallery. This piece is about women working togther, empowering each other and growing the amazing creative community that Darwin has. Miss Polly was given the opportunity to paint her first Major wall in the inaugural Darwin Street Art Festival in 2017 and now is mentoring new and upcoming talent Shona Lee Griffin.

The frangipani's in this mural are a tribute to the late wife of the man who owns this building, if you look carefully you will see her name written within the mural.
